Scouting from Home – #AdventureContinues

Hi All,

Hope you are keeping well and safe.

Our Suffolk Scouts Team has setup #AdventureContinues Challenges.  If anyone wants to participate please feel free to do so. The idea is that new challenges will come out every 2 weeks.

As part of our #AdventureContinues programme we’ve developed a number of challenges you can do at home.

Please celebrate and post any challenges you undertake on social media using the #AdventureContinues #18thIpswichScouts or email us your photos at:

COVID-19 News Bulletin #1 – 24th March 2020

We are living in very uncertain times.  I’m mindful that many of you will have been impacted by Covid-19 directly or indirectly and I wish you and your families well over the coming months. I hope that as Scouters we can help each other out. I intend to provide a Newsletter each week regarding Scouting In Suffolk. This will be sent to every adult member, so please check that your e-mail address is correct in Compass if you did not receive this email directly.

The key communications over the coming months will be the weekly email newsletter and our website Our Facebook and Twitter pages will be updated from time to time but are not our official source of news. All content we post will be based on UK Government and The Scout Association guidelines.

The Great IN-doors

Great INdoors

As experts in developing skills and bringing new experiences to young people, we know you’ll agree that it’s only right for us to step up and do what we can to support young people and their families across the UK.So, with that in mind, we’d like to introduce The Great IndoorsWe’ve pulled together over 100 existing activities from our programme planner that are perfect for parents and carers to do with their children if they’re stuck at home over the next few weeks.

Over the next few days, we’ll be making as much noise as we can in the press and on social media in order to support as many parents and carers as possible. If you’re able to share our posts on Facebook or Twitter, we’d really appreciate it.

On top of this, a team of staff and volunteers is working hard to identify the best ways for Scouts to continue over the next few months – and we’d love your help. Please fill in this form with your ideas about what we could be doing to help young people and their families to take part in Scouts and to take further action in our communities. Finally, I’d like to thank you all again. It’s in challenging times like these that we show our true colours, and our values matter most. I know that you’ll continue to rise to the challenge and we’ll continue to support you in doing so

Important coronavirus update – 16 March

Dear all
I’m writing to share critical pieces of information relating to the developing Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. This email follows my previous communications with volunteer managers over the past few weeks.
Late this afternoon, the Prime Minister has said that everyone in the UK should now avoid non-essential travel and contact with others.
Suspension of face-to-face activities
Given this guidance, all face-to-face Scout meetings, activities and events must be suspended from tomorrow, Tuesday, 17 March 2020. This suspension applies to young people and adults, and will be until further notice.
We must continue to respond to the developing situation in a calm, measured and appropriate way. We will continue to follow official guidance. The safety of everyone involved in Scouts, both young people and adults, is our number one priority. That is always at the heart of our decision making.

Best wishes,
Denise Bloomfield

St George’s Day Parade – 26th April 2020

St George’s Day Parade – 26th April 2019

Dear Parents

It is St George’s Day Parade on Sunday 26th April 2020.
This is the most important date in the Scouting calendar, a time when all sections and all groups parade together as Orwell District Scouts.

I would hope, that all sections will be well represented, and in full and correct uniform, please. This is the only event that, as GSL that I would expect your child to attend. Every child of each section reaffirms their scout promise.

Details of time, meeting points etc will follow in the next week.

All members of the group, need to be in full uniform for this parade.

Please put on your calendar. I am hoping for full attendance from all sections.
