Group Trip to Duxford

Group Trip to the Imperial War Musuem Duxford for the whole Group in October and over 60 members took part. This was the final point in two months work in all sections to help members gain the Basic Aviation Badge, and all section programmes have been tailored towards this Group event. We left by coach and minibus for IWM Duxford at 8.30am and after travelling through some very wet weather we arrived as the sun came out. Everyone then had a great day investigating all the hangers and taking part in activities on site. The Cubs and Scouts really enjoyed the Spitfire simulator and found the experience loads of fun. Just before we left the rain returned and we had a wet journey home, but all those who attended enjoyed the trip. Denise Bloomfield, GSL, said “Every young person I spoke to today, told me they were having a great time, and it was nice to be able to come with their friends in the Group. What a great leadership team we have at the 18th and today proved that.

We have already had praise from the staff from Duxford saying that our young people were well behaved and we were a very organised group. That says it all !! Special thanks go to Michael and Stuart for all the organisation.

BEACHWATCH 2013

Members from the 18th Ipswich and 1st Clare Scout Troops took part in the yearly national beach clean on 21st September 2013 at Languard Point nature reserve. The Scouts spent the afternoon combing the beach and the surrounding areas and clearing up litter from this area of special scientific interest. They were guided by the local Landguard Ranger, Mr Chris Ryde and he commented on the way they did such a great job of the Beachwatch litter pick. “I was completely impressed by your Scout group and the way they got on with it,” he said. Lynn Allen, Countryside Officer for Suffolk SCDC, said “I am relieved to see that no balloon debris was found on your section of the beach – sadly you can almost guarantee this kind of litter on our beaches – but I always find it worrying when shotgun cartridges are retrieved. We are really grateful to you, and Chris Ryde has been singing your praises about the amazing effort made by you all. It’s incredible that you found so much litter in the area. Please pass on our sincere thanks to the Scouts and Leaders involved.” We were once again working in our local community to help to keep the environment in a good state and help toprotect plants and wild life from harm.
